Pink or Blue?

Gender reveal cupcakes from here.

No, we don't know if it's a boy or girl, yet. Yes, we will definitely be finding out the sex of the baby before he or she is born. I'm to much of a planner and I can't wait to find out so we can start decorating. I also feel like once I know the sex, I will be able to bond more with the baby in my belly. I'm not saying that people who don't find out don't bond, but for me personally, I think it will make me feel closer to him or her and make it easier to picture the little one in our lives.

I am 14 weeks today. I know I do my weekly photos on Fridays, but I actually start a new week each Monday. From what I understand based on what I've read online and heard from mommy friends, we can find out anywhere between 17 and 20 weeks. I plan to discuss this with my doctor at my appointment next week (can't wait! I look forward to it all month) to find out when he recommends I get the anatomy scan (is it different than a regular ultra sound?). Normally, I would want to make the appointment for as soon as possible, but something might delay the gratification of finding out.

On Saturday, my husband and I were talking about my next doctor appointment and if he would go again. He almost didn't go to the last one, but was so happy that he did because we got to see the little one waving its arms around and kicking its feet. As I reminded him of this,  he told me what he wanted for his birthday.

My husband's birthday is on Thanksgiving this year. I will be 21 weeks pregnant at that time. His only birthday request is that I go by myself to find out the sex of the baby that week (or the week before if they're closed that week) and keep it a secret from him. Then, he wants to open a small present that will tell him the sex of the baby on his birthday.

My first thought was, that is the coolest idea, I wish I had come up with it. Then, I thought, how the heck am I going to keep the sex of the baby a secret from him for more than a couple of hours? Then, I realized that we'd be with my family for Thanksgiving and with his family the weekend after, something we've done every year for the last four years. If he opened the gift at my parents' house on Thanksgiving, it would be a surprise for everyone. Then, we could do some sort of cupcake thing like the one above at his parents' house that weekend. I always wanted a gender reveal party and this was one way of getting one. Times two!

So, now I have to decide if I should have the doctor/technician write down the sex and seal it in an envelope so I don't know until a day or two before Thanksgiving or if I can handle keeping a secret so big for as long as a week. I suppose I can just decide when the moment is upon me, especially since I don't know when the appointment would be, but I like to plan, remember?

Oh, and I already have an idea for the little pink and blue gifts. I'm thinking I'll get both ahead of time so I don't have to go shopping at the last minute.

What do you think of my husband's 30th birthday gift this year?

That is such a fun idea! I planned to do the gender reveal cake idea with my last and I'd love to do it the next chance I get. I still think it's a girl. :)

I love this post! My husband's 30th is also on thanksgiving this year, and I'm already thinking of what to get him. We already found out we're having a little girl in Feb, so the gender reveal won't work for us, but I'll be thinking of you guys that day!

Such cute ideas! I'm sure I will be like you - too much of a control freak to let that huge detail go unknown for so many months!

Your husband won't want to miss the anatomy scan (where you find out what you are having). I suggest you have him go to the ultrasound but let the technician write down the gender. That anatomy scan was one of the coolest things my husband and I got to see while I was pregnant. I would hate for your husband to miss something like that.

Aww, that is the sweetest birthday present idea ever! I don't know how you'll keep it a secret though--I'd be spilling the beans left and right :)

I want a gender reveal party, but I'm super paranoid about my parents finding out before my in-laws...and well...if one family had to find out first it would be MY family. Ha. As long as you don't think that will be a problem, it all sounds so wonderful!!!
