Birthday Extravaganza: Part 3

First, let me send my condolences to all of the people affected by the tragedy in Japan. It most definitely makes me appreciate my silly little problems.

I got a RIF notice today, otherwise known as a pink slip for teachers. It basically says that I will be laid off as of June 30, 2011. I got one of these two years ago and it was rescinded a week before school was over, so I got to keep my job. I'm hoping for the same thing to happen this time, but I'm on the hunt for another job just in case.

I have an appointment at the end of the month with my OBGYN to start clomid, but this whole pink slip thing kind of throws a wrench in our plans. I feel stupid going forward with fertility treatments when I know there is a good chance I won't have a job next year, but then again, I can't put our plans for a family on hold forever. This could happen every year for the next 10, you know? As of now, we're going to continue with our plans and hope for the best.

On a positive note, I got my period today all on my own!! I know this seems like something I shouldn't be excited about, but I haven't gotten my period naturally without the help of medication since last October. I took provera in December to start my period and haven't gotten it since. Both my husband and I were very excited this morning when I got it, something that doesn't excited most couples!

Ok, back to the birthday weekend recaps. Here's Part 1 and Part 2 if you need to go back and review.

After wine tasting, we were dropped off back at our hotel so we could take a nap before dinner. My husband went down to the front desk to ask them to send up some chocolate covered strawberries as a special treat, but they never came. Since we couldn't sleep, we went down to the hot tub for a bit and then got ready for dinner at Artisan, the nicest restaurant in Paso Robles (as my husband kept reminding me).

On our way out, there was a little wine tasting set up in the lobby of our hotel, so we decided to stop and try some. They also had some cheese and grapes out which I love because sometimes I need food when tasting wine to get the whole feel for the flavor. We loved the wine and my husband decided to buy two bottles and have them sent up to our room while we were at dinner.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any photos at the restaurant, but the food was divine! We had the burrata with prosciutto and smoked almonds and the mushroom soup as appetizers, I had the seabass (it came whole with the head on which wasn't my favorite), and my husband had the lamb which was so amazingly delicious. They served water in big glass milk bottles which I thought was really cool. We didn't have dessert because we were way too full and we had a leftover brownie from lunch back at the hotel.

When we got back to our room, my husband called down to ask about the wine we had purchased before dinner because it wasn't in the room and the guy at the front desk realized that we never got our chocolate covered strawberries. He apologized profusely and asked if there was anything he could get us to make up for it, so my husband asked for some vanilla ice cream and champagne. A few minutes later, he had brought it up, free of charge. We heated up our brownie and had a nice little dessert by the fire.

Look at that cool thing he brought us to keep the champagne cold! No ice needed. Pretty fancy.

The next day was my actual birthday and our original plan was to go straight home, but we took a little detour... stay tuned!

1. I'm so happy you had a fantastic birthday weekend! You deserve it!
2. Hope the job stuff resolves itself and doesn't cause you too much worry.
3. Make sure you get monitored on the Clomid - I wish I'd had more care in my treatment.
